The Award
Blue Collar Small Business of the Year
2026 State of Florida & SBA North Florida District Winner
The U.S. Small Business Administration gives this award to one company in the state each year: the business built on skilled trade work, where the product is a crew showing up and doing it right. For 2026 it went to Lyle Cummings and Hotspray Industrial Coatings.
The award was announced on April 9, 2026 as part of National Small Business Week, and presented at the 2026 Small Business Awards Luncheon at the Citrus Club in downtown Orlando on May 28. Hotspray was one of nine honorees named across the district that year.

Thirty Years in Business
Founded April 1996, still under founding ownership. In specialty coatings, where crews and companies turn over fast, three decades of continuous operation in one market is the hardest thing on this page to fake.

The Team
Who You Will Be Working With
Hotspray is not a broker that subs the work out. Every crew on your site is ours, and the two people who have run this company for thirty years are the ones you call.
President & Founder
Lyle Cummings
Founded Hotspray in April 1996 and has led it every year since. The SBA named him Florida’s Blue Collar Small Business of the Year for 2026. Clients name him directly in reviews after two decades of work, which is not something that happens to an absentee owner. He is still the one who decides which system goes on a difficult substrate.
“We are talented in a variety of different coating solutions with a crew of roughly 60 trained technicians.”

These are the clients named in the Florida SBDC at UCF profile written for the 2026 award. Every one of them is a place where a coating failure is expensive and public, which is why the same names keep calling back.

SeaWorld Orlando
23+ Years, Including the Orca Habitat
More than two decades of continuous work at SeaWorld: commercial painting, MMA floor systems, caulking, crack injection, and concrete restoration. In March 2024 we partnered with SeaWorld on the orca habitat, a job where the coating has to be safe for the animals living in it.
Pluris Water Utilities
Municipal Tank Recoats
Full exterior blast, recoat, and logo reinstatement on potable water storage tanks. Utility tanks are the least forgiving surface in Florida: constant UV, constant condensation, and a public that sees every streak.
Heavy Equipment
Structural Steel and Crane Booms
Corroded lattice boom taken back to bare steel and rebuilt with a full coating system. Same process we run on structural steel, tanks, piping, and containment framing.
The Milestone
Thirty Years. Same Owner. Same Standard.
Lyle Cummings founded Hotspray Industrial Coatings in Orlando in April 1996 and still runs it today. The company stayed family owned and locally owned through three decades of Florida heat, salt air, and hurricane seasons, which is the only real test an industrial coating ever gets.

In Their Words
Verbatim, From Public Reviews
“I have used this company at SeaWorld for over 23 years. They have performed commercial painting and MMA floor systems.
